Alex,
If you have a VOM (analog type volt-ohm meter with a needle, not digital),
you could try putting the positive lead on the output of the k/s and the
negative to block ground, set it to the lowest voltage scale (probably
millivolts), whack the head or block near the k/s with a hammer or wrench,
and see if the needle jumps.  Or, if you happen to have an oscilloscope, you
could use that, instead.
