The older 7-series were available with manual transmissions until the
advent of the 750 in '88.  Alpina produced a B7 - a turbo-charged 5
series sedan but that was a different animal entirely.  Most likely
what you're seeing is something akin to an AMG Hammer.  I have
several BMW "friends" in Boston, I'll have to remember to ask them.
