Ok, I'm stumped. I'm putting a '89 16v back together. It's just about
ready. One problem. The factory oil filter will not fit. It is too
long, and the front motor mount (hydraulic style) interferes with me
being able to get it to thread. The previous owner remedied this by
using a Purolator filter, which is significantly shorter.
I have come up with several problems/fixes.

1. get a new bracket for the mount. the one in there looks like it may
be bent. I'm not 100% on this. it's too damn cold to be in the garage
for long. this may "convince" the engine to swing over another .5 in.
or so.
2. go to the old style mount. I think this will allow proper clearance
3. Could the subframe be on backwards. I had to remove it to get the
engine in on a jack. is it possible I have it rotated 180 degrees? I
don't know if the mount is bolted directly in the center, allowing for
this installation.

Anyone have any insight? I don't have the time right now for this.
It's too damn cold and the project has gone on long enough, so any help
would be GREATLY appreciated.

Cheers,
Pat
