bitch off, until the next time this comes up. ben randolph >> << regardless of what head "should" perform better at various RPM's, nobody has ever done any back to back dyno comparison of the two heads. -I would if I had a dyno. people have done the swap, and many havent even felt anything on the "butt dyno". -I definitively noticed a difference on the "butt dyno". The 1.8 head pulls much better past 5500rpms. Enough to make a difference at the drag strip.
those who have done the swap are probably just noticing gains from having a head with less buildup, or one that has better compression, ect. -Disagree. I can give many examples, but I'll just give you one. My friend and I both had '87 16V cars with 2.0L motors. I had a 2.0L with a 2.0L head , gutted cat, and a power module. He had a 2.0L with a 1.8 head and everything else was stock. When we raced, his car would always pull away when we hit third gear. It was faster, period. We usually tuned our cars at the same time, so the mixture and timing were properly set. We later on, ended up having the same mods done to our cars: 1.8 head, exhaust, euro cam, power module, gutted airbox, and the cars were consistently dead even when we raced. <<unless you swap heads to one which is ported, and for that matter properly serviced as well, dontwaste your time or money. >> -Disagree. Why would techtonics recommend swapping heads? They have nothing to gain by having people put 1.8 heads on their 2.0L motors. They could actually be losing customers who were thinking of saving up for a TT ported head, and who are buying used 1.8 heads instead. Ben, I understand, I used to have the same doubts you do, but trust me, over and over my experiences have shown that the 1.8 head makes your car faster.
