That was me... on my previous '89 Hedious Blue GLI. I just called all the dealers and it just happened that the one closest to my house (the last one called) did it under warranty. The service manager stated that they'd do all heater cores under warranty no matter how many times it's been done. He said that all he had to do was to write up the failure being "related" to the recall...
