Update--
Well, the first problem I addressed in my previous post titled
"Technical Qs" occurred again this AM. It did not rain last night, so I
can't use moisture as an excuse anymore. The symptoms were the same.
The car started, ran for approx. 2 minutes, then died. I was able to
limp it home w/the DPR unplugged.
I was annoyed enough that i took the day off from work and have been
trying to diagnose the problem. I started w/the Motronic fault codes.
The first, and only code, was the Hall sender. I went to the bently and
performed the electrical tests recommended for the Hall sender. I have
sufficient voltage at the power stage. I have sufficient voltage and
ground to the hall sender. I could not get my LED test light to
activate when testing the hall sender switching function. I did all
tests twice and cleared the fault codes and generated them twice.
I talked to a couple local VW people and they said my symptoms sound
as if they were related to a hall sender. I know from reading on the
list that hall senders can do some pretty funky shit when they go bad.
Can they also cause backfiring? I'm hoping this will cure both of my
problems from my previous "Technical Qs" post.
Anyway, I've got a hall sender repair kit on the way from AAB. I
hope this fixes my problem, b/c those things aren't cheap!!
Thanks for everyone's advice/tips. I appreciate everything!!
