A car that doesn't start until you let off the key: some cars provide an alternate path to the coil through the ignition switch; if it fails, you have no voltage in "Start" position, but do have power to the coil in "Run". I think this is probably a holdover from the ballast or "dropping" resistor systems. Try putting a small bulb in parallel to the coil to watch whether there is 12v there when you're in "start". I'd guess the most likely place for a failure would be the ignition switch itself, but it could be a simple wire off or corroded. Ron ----- Original Message ----- From: "Mark W. Water pump pulleys suck. The have that built in clutch piece that supposedly reduces stress or something when the ac is on. That's right. The waterpump pulley is meant to slip at a certain point. Anyone who has removed the pulley might know what I'm talking about. Mine sounds like birds trying to mate. I tried to glue both pieces together using JB Weld, but that was a temporary solution. Looks like it didn't hold. Now it's back to the chirping birds noise again. It sounds like I'm peeling out, everytime I start the car and go. Also, my timing belt seems to have skipped a tooth. i'm not positive, but that would explain why my distributor is advanced all the way, and it still isn't far enough. My ignition system is messed up. The car won't start until I let off the key. Sometimes it takes three times to start the car. I've caused a backfire three times after giving the car gas during startup. It sounds like an m-80. I hope I don't blow a hole in my TT SS Borla exhaust. That would suck. What a waste. Anyone know what's wrong with my ignition. Like I said, the car won't start until you let go of the key. It will keep crankin' otherwise. When you let go, it starts. I just want a normal car damit! ________________________________________________________________ GET INTERNET ACCESS FROM JUNO! Juno offers FREE or PREMIUM Internet access for less! Join Juno today!
