I think the question John was asking wasn't what you answered. Yes, the 1.8T
can make 300hp to the wheels relatively 'easily', but how reliable would such a
motor be? Not shown in a trip to florida and back, but over a long period of
time. It is in no way proven, even by APR with their extensive 1.8t tuning
experience. Sure, the motor may be fine running a big turbo and high boost for
50,000, 75,000, even 80,000 miles. But no one really knows how the 1.8t will
fare with high mileage (over 100k), high boost, and lots of hp. Even Billy T.
=) I have no clue how many miles he has on his car now, but I am guessing
still somewhat low. I know he is only running a 1.1 bar chip (~17psi), but
still, who knows. Some guys on AudiWorld are begining to run into some
problems with their early 1.8t motors. Many are due to crappy early turbo
designs, but still something to think about when 1997 A4 1.8t's (first car 1.8t
was introduced I believe) are beginning to run into some problems with their
turbos. No flames please, just my $0.02. =)
Best of luck with the swap,
Denis G.

Subject: Re: FS: Complete 2.0 16V Engine (1.8T stuff)

A good friend of mine, Billy Tylaska, (I'm sure some of you know him from
Vortex) is making 300 wheel hp with many improvements still to be made. He
drives the car daily and just recently made a trip to Florida and back with
zero problems. He is still running the stock engine management with is a
limiting factor and he is drive-by-wire. I will be using full stand-alone
engine management and have the advantage of a regular throttle body. APR
already has a stage 3 300 hp kit available for the throttle body motors. It
has already been proven that the 1.8T motor can make 300 crank hp. The
question is can it handle 400hp?? Hopefully we will know very soon.

Sorry to post all this 1.8T stuff on the 16V list.
