It's actually a crank out of an older turbodiesel.  The new TDI's may use
the new crank, but people have been doing this swap for a while.  If you
want to get the motor to rev you'll need to lighten and balance as much as
you can.  Even then the angles get pretty extreme, causing stuff to wear
prematurely if you want to rev the motor.
