Doesn't the knock sensor just bring this advance back into spec?
the knock sensor has no control over the cam timing. It will adjust the ignition timing if it is knocking. The ignition timing should be set to the stock or "normal" running position after the cam timing is changed anyways so the motor shouldn't knock.
