I think they took a shortcut and cutted the heater box to extract the core, 
then glued the heaterbox back together.  I've seen a site that explains it, on 
a scirocco though.

I hope they didn't do it this way... It's ok, but I would consider it a hack 
job.  I would expect more from the dealer.  If you're replacing the heater core 
in your driveway and it's -10 below, then I would understand.

I don't see how its possible to do the job with the dash in the car.  That 
seems crazy to me as the heater core slides out the top of the heater box.  
If someone can explain how this is done please do so.
