Vw did NOT build the omni/horizon, any similarities are just due to Chrysler
jumping on the hot hatch bandwagon created by the rabbit. The Horizon was
built to replace the simca 1100 which was a front wheel drive, 4 cylinder,
front disk brake automobile (like a rabbit but came out before the rabbit).
Chrysler had a strong relation with VW in Europe and actually sold a few car
designs to vw which were later built and sold as vw's in South America! The
only involvement vw had with the omni/horizon is that Chrysler was having
problems in North America trying to legalize these cars with their own 1.6l
motor. Their newer line of motors were not yet ready and so vw supplied an
Audi 1.7l 8v motor for use in the first omni/horizon's. Chrysler fitted
their own intake manifold and carb to the motor and sold it in these cars.
However the 1.6l engine was ready for use after a short time and so it
replaced the 1.7l, and then the 2.2l motors came out and were also fitted
into these cars.

So in brief these cars are NOT built by vw and dont use vw parts, a small
number of them just use a vw motor. But they can be very quick cars when the
2.2l turbo motor is in them. It makes for a cheap easily tunable car that
makes big HP.

Hope that clears up some myth's about these cars.

as i know they are based on the rabbit

details were changed to keep people going to the dealer, like the angle at
which the brake hoses sat on the bracket

you/ beats you away from the red light..., you might shrug it off, even if
no upgrades are seen. but who would expect an omni to be fast? and i've seen
some very rust free ones latly, try find that in a A1
