I usually don't chime in too often on this list. Of all of my cars, I have the least familiarity with the 16V. Yet, I am always anxiously monitoring this list for any new postings which may provide some new insight into my own 16V project. I personally have a decent income and my credit would easily qualify me to purchase any number of new cars. Yet I insist on driving 15-20 year old watercooled VWs. I've had a small stable of A1s & A2s in my garage for years. Here in car conscious Los Angeles, you don't see too many A2s on the road but A3s and A4s are abundant.
There are several reasons why I remain on this list. 1. No car payments to own a 16V equipped car. 2. I can perform maintenance, repair, and upgrade work myself 3. I can get up to 25+ mpg and still stop from 60-0 in under 125 feet without ABS! 4. This list talks about cars! (I grew tired of discussions regarding turbos, stereos, fake xenon lightbulbs, and tire/wheel fitment) 5. Finally, the ultimate spare tool is another car! The entry fee to drive a 2003 GTi off the lot is greater than the sum I paid for ownership of all of my current cars! My 16V is currently under construction, so I absorb a lot of the tips, tricks, and traps that are discussed on this list and apply that knowledge in the construction of my own Golf. Your discussions allow me to avoid many pitfalls and choose the right equipment based on experiences discussed in this forum. Keep up the good work! I joined this list 18 or so months ago and have pretty much had all my ?'s answered. I love to discuss this stuff with others, but as you said, people don't say much anymore. Website sound great. I'll even give ya a hand if you want. It kinda lonely owning a jetta where I live. Not a lot of people have jettas out here. I see one about every other day, and its usually the same old lady. I have seen two GLi's aside from mine in the past 12 months. So I apologize to you all for not have many exciting VW stories to tell. I live in Salem, OR, and this place crawls with 90's rice burners. I am the only person I know who even owns an A2. Its an irritating fact, but I'll never get rid of the beast! Too many good times! So anyway. Lets hear some stories, and lets get this list going again!! ravel! ravel! ravel! ravel! ravel! ----- Original Message ----- From: "Mark Reda" <[email protected]> To: "a2list" <[email protected]> Sent: Wednesday, May 14, 2003 2:01 PM Subject: [a2-16v-list] This List Is Dead > Hey guys, what's the matter? > There is practcally no action on this list. > What happened to the days when there was a lot of hardcore 16V info on a > daily basis? > > I'll give you guys the benefit of the doubt that you're busy working on your > cars to read or write emails. > > Does this mailing list even have a website anymore? > I'm willing to help develop a kick-ass site and maybe even hosting. > I'm sure we have a few web designers on the list who can help. > All I'm waiting for is for somone to had over the keys. > I've got some great ideas. > > Mark Reda. > > _______________________________________________ > a2-16v-list mailing list > [email protected] > http://mail.a2-16v.com/mailman/listinfo/a2-16v-list > For list archives, see listinfo link above. > > > _______________________________________________ a2-16v-list mailing list [email protected] http://mail.a2-16v.com/mailman/listinfo/a2-16v-list For list archives, see listinfo link above. >
