Did a search and found some interesting looking stuff that might do the job.

Look at the "Pro Shock" and the "Master Blaster" (shades of Road Warrior 3).

This is what I've done to remove some carbon build-up without removing the
  head.....

Get a full can of Throttle Body Cleaner, make sure it has some kind of
straw
to spray through (like the Red straw that WD-40 comes with).

Start your car and let it go through a few fan cycles, then turn off the
  car.
Loosen the intake boot on the throttle body.
Connect the RED Straw to your can of TB cleaner and squeeze half of the
  straw through the boot.
  Start the car.
If you completely disconnect the boot the engine will not start.
While under the hood, play with the throttle body cable to increase the
  RPMs.
Then start spraying the TB cleaner.
Increase and decrease the throttle and keep spraying.
If you don't play with the throttle the engine will stall.

Use the whole can of cleaner, then take the car for a hard drive.
I've done that a few times on both of my 16Vs and it has worked wonders.
