a couple weeks ago there was a thread on the topic of a knocking/clanging
coming from the front drivers side wheel.
Someone suggested that you should jack up the front end and wiggle the wheel to
see if there is any play.
Well, I did and holy SH*T. I cant believe Ive been so ignorant. At least I
parked this car 5 months ago and haven't driven it since due to the noise.

I jacked the front end up and pushed and wiggled the drivers side wheel left
and right with the steering locked and it was firm, then I grabbed the top of
the wheel and pushed and pulled and it gave... about 1/4 inch either way and
made kindof a clicking sound. I thought, "oh wonderful, just what I need!" so I
figured while the car was up I would try the other side the same way. Grabbing
the top and pulling and pushing I just about crapped myself when I noticed that
it gave about 3/4" either way. never made a sound though. Had I kept driving on
that, I probably would have less of a jetta then I do today!

So my question for you is that, how many parts, and what parts do I have to
replace to fix this. Apparently, its both sides.

Thanks
