its normal to see a lot of flow in the reservior.
bear in mind the power steering pump generates in excess of 1500 psi...
Well, I haven't had one apart myself and I don't have the Bentley on had
here, but, from first principles, the rack's gotta have a relief valve
built in (since you want the pressure within the rack to stay constant,
regardless of engine rpm). If the valve is blocked on the rack side
somehow, the p/s pump would be dumping all those 1500 psi of pressure
right back into the reservoir, causing the symtomps Dee describes. BTW,
Dee, you never metioned this, but does the p/s actually work at all?
Cheers,
Oleg

When ever I look at my power steering reservoir when at idol the
fluid seems to be flowing excessively. I replaced the fluid with
the proper Pentosin about three years ago. It does not foam or
anything, but just seems to be flowing a lot. Is this normal?

Dee,
I see you mention that the pump has been replaced. I am assuming you used
fresh (Pentosin, or similar high quality) PS fluid to replace this? As a
side note, of course you cannot mix the traditional and sythetic PS
fluids.
Also, make sure the system is not overfull.

Has anyone had the problem of power steering fluid becoming aerated in
about 15 seconds after startup? There are no visible leaks and pump has
been replaced. There seems to be way too much flow into the reservoir
from
the rack. If the engine is revved to 2000 RPM or so for 20 seconds and
then allowed to return to idle, the fluid will blow out of the vent hole
in
the cap higher than the hood when it is open.
the car is 1992 GTI 16V with about 105k. Any help will be appreciated.
Thank you,
