Someone requested a progress update, so...
The pinhole leak in the outer boot grew to a 1/2 way around the boot tear and grease coated everything. New axle showed up via UPS yesterday afternoon, installed last evening. Install went pretty much like the Bentley says it should. I spent a some time trying to remove the ball joint from the hub without taking the bolts out of the control arm, to no avail. I finally went ahead and marked the position of the locking plate on top and removed the ball joint, much easier this way. I didn't bother to try use a marking pen like Bentley says, I'd never see the mark in the grease that was there, I scribed around the mounting plate on both sides w/an awl. It lined back up w/these markings fairly easily after installing the axle. Make sure you put antiseize on the ball joint before reassembling. Also, if you haven't already removed the weight dampener and mounting tabs from your subframe do it now, it makes it easier to get the R side axle in and out of position. Spent most my time cleaning up grease from the axle area and the inside of the wheel. Noticed that my brake pads are getting pretty thin, time to get my 10.1" brake (upgrade from my 9.4") setup prepped for install.

The full axle replacement is definitely the way to go, good call there.
