installed a shift weight? If so, does it really make the shifting smoother?
I use an A3 weighted rod (about $20?? from the dealer). It's definitely
smoother. Be warned though that if you've got a Neuspeed or a similar
shifter design (i.e., a shortened gearbox selector lever), the A3 rod
requires a bit of creative modification -- with a vise and a big hammer
:-) -- to fit properly.
For the ultimate shifter upgrade, try this guy's stuff:

He makes a short shifter that mounts to the relay arm, plus all-metal
adjustable-length linkages. I'm using his kit (with the A3 weighted rod
which I already had) at the maximum reduction setting, combined with a
Neuspeed shifter set to 30%, and the feel is just perfect. Though you
probably need to replace all bushings in the shifter linkage, plus the
ball-and-cage assembly, to get the full benefits of a short throw setup.
Cheers,
