The previous owner of my 88 gli did it himself using a piece of cardboard cut
to the size of the space minus the plastic trim pieces.  They used a strong
spray adhesive between the cardboard and any fabric from X fabric store (choose
your flavor of store or fabric).  Put the combo in place and screwed down the
trim pieces.  These were his directions he told me 3 years ago and from what I
hear, the headliner still looks great!  If all else fails, thumbtacks are a
classy alternative.
