Had the exact same problem this summer. Car would flood and die, and if I was really careful on the gas, I could get into the "limp-home" mode. Swapped rotor and cap (they were due anyways), still no start. Let the car dry overnight, started up fine! Sure enough, next rain, the car would not run. Inspected the plug wires, but could see no pits or cracks...until I inspected them with the car running, and got a nice big jolt from the coil lead. Put in new wires (nice Eurosport 8mm wires..), problem (and intermittent missing under load) vanished. Never did find a broken spot in the wire insulation, but it might have just been too small to see.
