Alts have a tendency to go bad.
I've heard that the bosch bearings rarely go bad, but over time I'm sure all
bearings will go bad.

When you do install a new alt be sure not to over tension the alt belt. The
uneven load can stress the bearings in the alt, causing it to prematurely wear
the bearings.

Good Luck.

Mark.
