My speaker grills were all cracked when I bought the car. What I did
was remove the grills and break off the "mesh" part. I then screwed
some Boston Acoustic speakers onto the outside of the grill. So now
instead of the speakers being recessed they sat on top of the stock
grill and the same four screws could be used for mounting and
dismounting. The grills on the BA speakers did a good job of covering
those screws. The install ended up looking ok.

I also ended up with larger speakers than stock.

I hope this made sense.

Subject: [a2-16v-list] jetta 16v door speakers

I have speakers to install in my 2000 Jetta 16v front door panels, but I
am looking for some recommendations on how to mount them. One of the
speaker grilles is missing. Should I buy new grilles and mount the
speakers just like the stock ones or do something different?

Thanks. Chad
