My Golf has been in project "purgatory" for a few years now. Little progress
as the 16V always ends up on the back burner. Here's my picture

I find myself more often alone at VW/Audi events with my A1 and A2
generation cars. The shared knowledgebase for the earlier generations are
becoming more isolated. New and specific parts are becoming more difficult
to find. And I'm seeing more and more A2s being retired to the salvage
yards.

However, I found this comment in the March 2005 publication of "European
Car". European Editor and Race Car driver Alistair Weaver was commenting on
the trend by manufacturers to constantly produce more powerful cars. In the
end, they also end up adding more weight and complexity.

He said this:
"Take the Volkswagon Golf, for example. The 1976 genre-defining original was
19.7 in. shorter and 1100 lbs lighter than the new model. It was therefore
only 1.1 sec slower from 0 to 60 mph, despite giving away 88 bhp to the new
model. And because it's lighter and smaller, it's still more agile than it's
great-great-grandson"

No one here but us chickens...

I still have my 16v GTi and recently added an Audi with TWO 16v
motors under the hood - I must really be a glutton for punishment...
