Anyone out there remember what it takes to relocate the radio from the dashboard to the centre console on a GTi with manual windows?
I acquired Dale L's '89 GTi over the summer and I've been slowly (painfully slowly) working on getting it street legal again for use as my daily driver. At the same time, I'm looking to keep the car COMPLETELY STOCK and run it in GS locally for a bit of fun. This is more of a challenge for me than anything I've done automotively since I'm notorious for adding modifications on a whim. So far I've found tonnes of cheap sway bars, coil-over kits and engine bits that I want but can't use to stay Stock legal - the upside here is that I haven't spent any upgrade money either. Back to the issue at hand - I want to move the radio to the centre console so that I may mount 3 gauges in the radio opening. Obviously I need to extend the radio wires but I remember someone used to produce a kit to relocate the radio. Does anyone remember who manufactured the kit? Better yet, has anyone used it or has anyone successfully relocated the radio? Besides wanting the gauges in my line of sight, mounting the radio lower in the car will hopefully make it less of a target for thieves. It's not that I have expensive radios ($150 Alpine) BUT with today's society, it's not the value of what's stolen but the thrill of stealing that seems to be the great motivator. Thanks in advance!!
