Prime the oil pump until you see the light go out before you start it. IF it were an 8V that would mean pulling the distributor and putting a tool down on top of the pump. Unfortunately, I cannot find any specific tools listed for the 16V because the top of the oil pump is different, no little rectangle on it for the tool to mesh with. If the sump is full (including enough to fill the filter once it starts pumping) it might well prime itself just sitting with the pickup tube submerged. You can always fall back on the "take the plugs out and crank it until the light goes out" routine.
