Agree that air tools are the last thing needed when just starting out. Harbor freight has lots of stuff cheap that works well. Check out their $300+ tool cabinets. Full ball bearing drawers and excellent reviews. Their jacks and stands can save you some money too. A craigslist search could get you some deals too.
As much as I work on cars I still get by witha only a 2 gal compressor. I use it for an impact on occasion and lots of times to blow off stuff. Again, not needed but handy. One of my favorite tools is a 1/4 electric impact with adapters for sockets. Yea, I went cheap with the hf brand for $25 with battery. I love this tool and will buy another if it quits on me. It won't break all bolts loose but it's handy install and remove bolts in no time. I don't think I need a more powerful one since I use a 1/2 air impact if I really need the power.
