If yours is like one I worked on a while back, the center is actually American pipe thread; a "close nipple" from your local plumbing supply place (hardware store, home center, etc.) will have you up & running. Take along the old one to check against mating parts for thread size. The short ones have a single diameter thread, not tapered like ordinary pipe, if they have continuous thread from end to end. This also means that you can run one end into, say, a pipe elbow, clamp it into a vise to protect those threads, and cut it off with a hacksaw, de-burr, and unscrew it for use on the car. Wrapping it with a piece of cardboard will protect the threads from Channellock (tm) jaws or whatever you use; you'll need to do the same when installing, anyway, so might as well practice! A "basin wrench" should be the ideal tool for reaching up in there, BTW.

I'd like to use this in place of the water/oil cooler/heater. However, the
brass threaded center pipe on which the Oil filter mounts is too long. I
need a shorter one that is nearly half the length of the OEM pipe.

I've done a few searches and found only complete kits. Does anyone know
where I can purchase a shorter center pipe?
