On a similar note: I know print magazines are now old hat. But a longtime friend and I were discussing building cars when we were in high school. All of our pictures for inspiration as well as all of the technical advice came from printed materials. Some tuners had modem bulletin board that could share notes. I remember reading about16V motors from legendary tuners like Drake Engineering, the Calloway Turbo VWs, and there was also the "Wolf in Sheeps Clothing" where a European Tuner installed a Porsche 928 V8 into a VW MKI.
My memories and pictures came mostly from VW/Porsche which later became European Car. One other magazine that I found amusing for the pictures was a British magazine titled "The Golf" The interest in MK1 & MKII Golfs in the UK lasted far longer than it did here in North America. Although mostly street modified Golfs, it kept the interest alive. Good paper quality and good photography. I'll did through my archives to see if I can find pictures.
