I learned to drive a stick shift on a 1972 VW Squareback. Those 4sp air cooled cars had the most abrupt clutch setup I'd ever driven so to make it smooth, one had to be precise and deliberate with both the clutch and the gas pedal. I stalled that thing many times at stop lights learning how to drive and learning to negotiate starts on an incline were even more stressful.
I recently rebuilt the entire shifterbox and linkage on my MK2. I bought the entire rebuild kit from TechTonics which replaced the worn reverse lockout plates, the shifter and all of the bushings and fittings. I've still to assemble the transmission into the engine bay so I've not yet tried it out. I was planning on purchasing the Missing Linkz shifter kits for the O2O transmission. I'd installed those kits on every one of my previous MK1s and MK2s. I have not searched lately but I hope they are still available. The kit was fully adjustable and made my shifting more precise. Shifthing through the gears felt much like the action of a Winchester rifle. -Les On Aug 29, 2014, at 6:37 AM, Larry Velez wrote: > I am sure you all are reading in the various car rags how Porsche seems to be > abandoning the manual gear box with the latest GT3.
