Yes, those errors seem to be produced by large lines that cross areas that don't appear to have any other content. That's almost certainly a clue as to what is going wrong. So, I think the only way they will get fixed is when I (or anyone else) finds what's wrong with mkgmap that's causing this to happen. I am continuing to work on this issue.
