Hi Karl,

Older Garmin models can not read unicode characters so you need to use --latin1
in place of --unicode when compiling maps for these older devices. I had a
similar problem with my Etrex.

Dave

wrong?

Hi.
It seems like it was a question of adding the option --unicode to the mkgmap
command combining the mapdata with the TYP.

This works for the GPSMAP 66st and correctly shows the descriptions (map
legend) of objects.
Loading the same map on the eTrex vista HCx works, but the local characters
shows as garbage, it's ok for now but is there some way do change it or is the
unit "too old"?

Regards
Karl
