Hi Felix,

sorry, I was wrong. a label "G3 TRK" or "T2 PTH" is completely ignored.
Problem with prefixes remains.

Hi Felix,

the logic for the mdr7-del probably doesn't work well for your style. It was
meant to remove suffixes from names.

A name like "M0. BOGENHOFWEG XBK XBK G2 TRK" is changed to "M0. BOGENHOFWEG",
M0. is not a suffix.

A road name like "G3 TRK" is not changed at alll because g3 and trk are both in
your list and thus the algo finds no part that should be kept and stops.
Maybe not the best idea.

Gerd

Thanks for all the debugging/help. I guess in 1 year or so the default style
used with split-name-index will then also hit those limits on the Europe
continent extract. Seems to be around 2GB. I will still have a look with the
display tool for useless entries in the mdr index.

Hi Felix,

you can compile the display tool like mkgmap. svn repo is at
https://svn.mkgmap.org.uk/mkgmap/display
You need mkgmap to compile it. See mkgmap.dir in the build.xml.

I have the sources in
d:\display
and
d:\mkgmap
and I just have to compile mkgmap before I can compile display tool.

Hi Felix,

I also wondered if the strings are case-sensitive, that's how I found out that
your options don't work ;)

The match is done ignoring the case. I'll add this to the dok.

Oh yes, thanks you were right. Somehow I used semicolon instead of comma. It is
still breaking however - difference being the temp file is 2.09GB instead of
2.33GB.
BTW is the mdr7-del case insensitive if used together with lower-case? I hope
it is.

I cannot download the display tool - the link from here is not working:
https://files.mkgmap.org.uk/detail/472

(same for the older link).

Hi Felix,

both --mdr7-del and --mdr7-excl are only evaluated when the global index is
created. They have no effect on the tiles.
You can use MdrDisplay with a smaller sample map to check what is written to
the index.

Garmin uses a compressed format for the string table (Mdr 15) but we don't know
how the compression works.
I guess we could add code to omit the string table. It's probably not
mandantory. On the other hand I see no need for a detailed map
of whole Europe anyway.

yes it is some sort of overflow - if I do the map in two runs (1500 tiles
approx)
with 65500*
and 65501*
it compiles fine.
That's why I use a pretty long exclusion list - but this is not enough. The
index without split-name-index is about half the size. I think the first list
of options only matters on the actual mkgmap creation run - and does not
change anything anymore on the second step of creating the address index. Maybe
I missed a couple - but most should be excluded.

Hi Felix,

your index is probably simply too large (> 2GB).
The attached patch fixes another possible overflow, but I am not sure if such a
file size is allowed for the index.

Maybe try to remove specific items from the index (see --mdr7-excl, --mdr7-del)
I think the reason for the huge size is your style which combines a lot of
information in the road name, e.g. "102 Thw-Göttinger Weg T2 Pth
Zentralalpenweg 02 Hr"
or "137 Mindener Jubiläumsweg T2 Pth Mindener Jubiläumsweg Hr"
(found these in omtb_austria_13.05.2021)
All this information is stored in the PC index (a string table), and with
--split-name-index lots of entries are produced for strings like "Pth" or "T2"
or "Hr"

I found out that if I remove --split-name-index then it compiles fine. I'm just
trying a minimal setup option wise and could look if it's a special .img tile
or not.
I could upload all map tiles somewhere for further analysis - or try some more
things before doing that (12GB data or so).
