In Reply to your partitioning problem:

First you have to partition your harddisk with some partition tool which is
already available in Windows XP (somewhere in 'Administration Tools'). In
this way you can still keep your existing data and allocate the free
available space to a new partition. So till now you've got the NFTS
partition (by default for Windows XP) and another partition (to be used for
Linux).

Next step is to run RH8 setup and choose the option Automatic partitioning
and choose the partition you have just created using that tool in WinXP
(which will be referred to some hdb or hda2, according  to your
configuration). The automatic partition will create 3 partitions in that
space: the root '/' partition, the boot partitiion, and the swap partitiion
(I normally choose twice the size of the RAM for my swap).
