Did that....

Eth1: could not upload firmware ( 'isl3890' )
Eth1: islpci_open()
Eth1: resetting device
Eth1: uploading firmware
Eth1: could not upload ....

Repeated over and over again.....

The allied telesyn at-2800tx is even stranger.... it uses a tulip module
which is found.... configured it to use dhcp from my router.... but its
still totally dead....
