Welcome back guys..

Regarding the server... to really increase resilience, why not backup offsite
to another data centre?

I'm saying this since our company offers this service (onto our own linux
servers hosted at GO)
and is ready to sponsor this service to linux.org.mt free of charge.

This would give the server automated and very regular secure backups at least
for the core data (user db, htdocs etc)
You can check it out at www.prisma.com.mt - click on "DataSafe" ... (works with
linux too).

Cheers
Julian

Subject: [LINUX.ORG.MT] MLUG Mirror Hardware Failure

Dear All!,

We are back online - finally! The MLUG mirror was hit by a minor power outage
which caused two of the mirror's hard disks to end up damaged. Due to the way
the machine was RAIDed, all configuration files, mailing list info, website and
mirrored files were lost. The previous backups available of the configuration
and mailing lists are available but may be somewhat dated. I encourage
everybody who is on the list, and is reading this, to contact
members/subscribers to re-subscribe or signup again to the website.

We have taken steps so that the RAID is more resilient, so that even in the
case of 2 hard disks going out, we are still in a position to recover in most
cases. This was done thanks to Philip Toledo LTD sponsoring 2 new hard disks
which have been installed instead of the two paper weights.

Hope to see you all online and active in our forums once again!

Thanks,

Anton Xuereb
