Hi all, I am all for freedom of speech. I trust the police and judiciary in keeping law and order. I however do not trust private corporations to be given such powers to effectively shut down websites (possibly using automation) if they suspect breach of copyright. They are not above the law. If they believe that someone is at fault, then they can pursue the culprit as they already do in Malta. Ask any ISP and they will tell you that they already hand out warnings to their users. This will bring on a paradigm shift in internet privacy akin to the airport security checks post 9/11. In the end, no real criminal got caught with those checks and the real criminals still got dangerous items on board. Who really suffered were the passengers and the airport security personnel who now have a false layer of security to account for.
The goal of ACTA is good. However, the law is unnecessary as it is already covered by other treaties. What it really gives is more power to the media and brand companies. Power which stifles creation of new content and innovation by building a fence wall around current intellectual property. ACTA puts SME's out of business. Jobs - real jobs. Think about it. -- Raphael On Mon, Feb 6, 2012 at 7:34 AM, Ramon Casha <[email protected]>wrote: > As MLUG there are many problems that affect open source software directly. > I think we should be officially against ACTA. > > Ramon Casha > > > On 6 February 2012 06:00, Daniel <[email protected]> wrote: > >> Any feedback on what to say about ACTA next Saturday? >> >> I suggest to post some help for people who are asking what's ACTA? >> >> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=citzRjwk-sQ >> >> http://www.stopacta.info/ >> >> >> -- >> >> _______________________________________________ >> MLUG-list mailing list >> [email protected] >> http://linux.org.mt/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/mlug-list >> >> > > _______________________________________________ > MLUG-list mailing list > [email protected] > http://linux.org.mt/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/mlug-list > >
