You might be able to work around this with some kind of batch file
hack. In Windows, you can use the "start" command to launch a program
in the background... if you had a file called playmedia.bat with the
line:

start c:\Program Files\MediaPlayer\wmplayer.exe /play %1

Or whatever... then you could call that from the plugin by setting
tag_program to point to your playmedia.bat and it would return
immediately. Maybe :D
