So I was doing some heavy browsing & pruning and shifting among categories, and the C-d interface works pretty well. But I had some issues.
First, I found it best to have the order be category-question-answer. This let me see the category & question at a glance, without scrolling, which is usually enough for me to decide whether this was a keeper and what new more-precise category I want to put it in. (My screen is not so gargantuan that even the maximized view is enough to let me see all 3 simultaneously.) But the order is not customizable, nor does it save itself. It reverts to question-answer-category every time. I think shifting to category-question-answer makes sense as a default, inasmuch as questions and answers can be very long, but it seems to be quite rare to have categories longer than 10 or 20 characters. If this switch can't be made, then some persistence of the order would be very nice. If that can't be done, then some manual customization option would also work. Second, I noticed that when I changed the category of a card, the card remained in place, destroying the sorting. When I'm trying to empty a category, this isn't helpful - it means that my past completed work clutters up the cards left to consider. I can click and click again to resort it, but now I lose my position - apparently I remain at my absolute position within the sorting, but if I've modified a bunch of cards, I could be very far from my position in the category I was editing. Best, I think, to just shift edited cards to their right spot immediately. Sorting a few thousand items lexicographically ought to be so quick that it doesn't matter how often one does it. -- gwern -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "mnemosyne-proj-users" group.
