You may be able to export Q & A from Word as plain txt and that may solve the 
problem.

What I have done is to look at Q & A files in TextWrangler, turning on 
'Invisibles' then using search and replace to clean up the file to where 
Mnemosyne is happy with it.

The actual problem is that Word is a billion dollar computer assisted machine 
tool where a simple five dollar chalk board will do a very much better job.  I 
have fixed up 4,000 pairs of Q & A in numbers;  copied and pasted to 
TextWrangler to check there's no garbage;  then Saved the file As a name that 
fits for Mnemosyne.  It took little time and worked well.
