Why bother having folders hidden away in directories etc? I'm following the system recommendations of Windows, Linux and Mac with respect to the best locations to store user's data. I guess you should take that point up with the guys who made those recommendations :-) I can however see their point of separating the location where the program is installed, and the location where the user data is stored, such that the program only needs to be installed once if more than 1 user on the same machine wants to use it.
