Have you tryed this sequence:
- add new tag to every target card; activate this tag only
-in Browser, change card Type - en masse; SRS will reset the history; 
Warning: on vocabulary type you will 'loose' text in the note-field;
  so, move -temporary move- the text from NOTE field to other field
-again, change the type - back to what it was; retore text in the NOTE field
 
  Advantages of tis process:
 - cards will be scheduled as NEW again
- the process will be automatic
