A lot of Japanese is done with JIS of different kinds or EUC, which I believe 
is an ethernet standard.  The UTF–8 that Mnemosyne uses is another animal that 
causes scrambling...

Converting the text to UTF-8 should please Mnemosyne no end !  Sorry if that is 
complex to manage.
