Hi everyone,

I rely on Mnemosyne every day for vocabulary practice and I usually attach
an audio file to each card so I can hear the pronunciation. In practice,
though, I don’t always want the audio to play automatically—I often prefer
to read a word first and pronounce it silently before I listen to it. At
other times I need to hear the pronunciation repeatedly to memorise it.

To make that workflow smoother, I’ve mocked up two small additions to the
Android toolbar (screenshots attached):

   -

   *Speaker‑with‑X icon* – a simple toggle that mutes/un‑mutes audio
   playback globally.
   -

*Replay icon* – taps the existing *Replay sound* menu function in one
touch, so I can replay the current card’s audio as often as I need while
   audio is enabled.

Would it be feasible to add these two buttons to the official app?
If the core team doesn’t have bandwidth right now, is the Android client’s
codebase open‑source enough for me to fork and prototype the change myself
without breaking synchronisation with the desktop version? Any pointers to
the relevant part of the code or to best practices for contributing would
be greatly appreciated.

Thanks a lot for all your work on Mnemosyne, and for any guidance you can
give!

Best regards,
