Hi, This may have come up before, but if not I think it would be a great path to pursue.
In case you haven't heard, Cyanogen Mod, the popular Android custom ROM, has recently become a company and has announced that it has a deal with an OEM to ship the Cyanogen-flavor of Android by default on their phone. http://www.cyanogenmod.org/blog/a_new_chapter This seems to me as an interesting opportunity for Mobile Firefox. Our greatest problem so far is that Firefox for Android does not ship with Android. Although it's possibly the best mobile browser out there, Chrome or "Browser" often get more action simply because it's already installed and ready to go. What we need right now, is for Mozilla to officially contact Cyanogen and offer this partnership. Not only is it great for us, but it's also good for the Cyanogen community. Even if we get Firefox to be installed alongside another browser, it would still be a big win. Some of the advantages of Firefox for Android, as I see it: - It works on ARMv6 - It works on versions of Android older than 4.0 - It doesn't try to automatically log me in to Google. (privacy sensitive) - It's completely Open Source (Chrome for Android isn't quite there) I can see a few issues with this strategy: - The OEM partner might not agree with this for some reason - Google might try to force Cyanogen out of this plan Please CC anyone who would have a say in this. I would really like to get Firefox with my next nightly build of Cyanogen :D Thanks, Valentin _______________________________________________ mobile-firefox-dev mailing list [email protected] https://mail.mozilla.org/listinfo/mobile-firefox-dev
