Hi all, I wanted to send an update on our plans for third-party service integration (a.k.a. "Lists", formerly referred to as "My List" or "Hub"). For those who haven't heard about this feature, our objective is to make it easier for third-party services to integrate with Firefox, mainly by adding new lists to our recently redesigned about:home.
We now have project page tracking the requirements for an MVP [1], and now we're starting to move into development! I filed a meta bug [2] to track this work, and I wanted to bring attention to the ways that people can start helping out. I've started work on some patches to add basic support for letting add-ons add new lists to about:home [3], and to create a new content provider where this list data will live [4]. However, there is definitely other work that can be done in parallel, such as figuring out how to let these third-party services authenticate users [5], and how to let the user manage their lists, including the current lists we ship in about:home [6]. Please refer to the meta bug to see what other things there are that need to be done. And definitely go ahead and file more bugs if you start exploring any of these areas. Best, Margaret PS - I don't have a link to ibarlow's most recent designs, but perhaps he can follow up here when he updates the wiki page with those :) [1] https://wiki.mozilla.org/Mobile/Projects/Third-party_service_integration_MVP [2] https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=lists [3] https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=862805 [4] https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=941318 [5] https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=942281 [6] https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=942231
