Hello folks,

Android-powered Kindle tablets are a non-trivial part of the US tablet market;
something like 9%. (The iPad holds about 50%, last I checked.)

The topic of shipping in the Amazon Appstore for Android -- which covers both
Kindle and non-Kindle Android devices, in various guises -- has been on the
table for years (indeed, since we pulled Firefox 9 from the Appstore).

But beyond that, there's a fair amount of interest from end users[0] in
sideloading Firefox on their Kindle devices… and a number of apps trying to
capitalize on that by abusing our trademarks in the Amazon Appstore[1].

We have a great opportunity there: lots of folks don't like Silk, and Chrome
isn't an option.

We've been gradually accruing Kindle-related bugs from crash stats and ad hoc
personal testing. I've been trying to keep these corralled[2].

Fixing these (or working around them), and finding the ones we don't yet have
on file, is an obvious prerequisite for shipping in the Appstore, but it's also
important for having a decent sideloading story.

This email is a call for help with three things:

* Help finding and filing bugs. If you have a Kindle Fire, please install and
test Nightly from FTP[3]. If you don't, and you don't currently test Firefox on
a tablet at all, this might be a good time to talk to your manager about
whether a Fire would allow you to celebrate Tablet Tuesday. If you know of a
Kindle-related bug that isn't blocking [2], please let me know!

* Help fixing bugs. This should be self-explanatory.

* Help mentoring others in fixing bugs. If you're a subject matter expert for
one of the bugs blocking [2], but you don't have time to fix, please step up to
mentor. Take a minute to skim that list.

I'd like for us to enter Q4 (or Q1 next year) able to confidently recommend
Firefox as a substitute for Silk for sideloaders, or say "go" to having Fennec
be the #1 browser in the Amazon Appstore.
