Two things came out of our meeting this morning.

*Firstly*, we'd like to have a more actionable backlog of tracking bugs.
The best way to do that is to *not* assign yourself to bugs unless you're
actively working on them.

If a bug is something you *could* work on, don't assign yourself and say
you'll get to it one day — mark yourself as a mentor and leave some
explanatory comments.

This is a break from our historical convention that every tracking bug
needs an assignee. That hasn't been working for us, so we're dropping that
convention.

*Secondly*, our timezone differences are making passive discovery a
challenge for some of our newer contributors. We're going to experiment
with making that better.

I've created a channel on IRC called *#mobistatus*. Hang out there. Once or
twice a day, leave a brief one-liner about what you're working on, just as
if a coworker had asked in person. If you want to get a feel for what's
going on, just skim scrollback.

For this to work it's important that we don't fill this up with banter or
technical discussion, so please make every effort to have follow-on
conversations in *#mobile*. You might also want to mute joins and parts in
that channel:

/ignore -channels #mobistatus * JOINS PARTS QUITS NICKS

Feedback on this process is welcome; please give it a shot. Both Android
and iOS devs are welcome.

Thanks to Emily for making the suggestion!
