The api surface is huge, but there is material, have a look at
https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/API:Web_APIs_hub for example for some
introduction information.

The api sandbox is also very useful for exploring the api and trying to get
what you want: https://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Special:ApiSandbox
