I have the iPhone 5. It is longer (has a 4 inch screen instead of 3.5 inch) but much thinner and lighter. Also, it is much snappier than 4S because of faster processor. As far as functionality goes, they are almost similar.
If I were you, I would wait to see what new features the next version of iPhone brings. My guess is that it will be out in July or so. It may be called the iPhone 5S or something but it is bound to have a number of improvements including possibly near field communication. All this is speculation of course.
