I modified my iPhone 4S to iOS 6.1.3 long enough ago that I do not keep in
mind doing it. The update became available in delayed April and I used the
update
soon thereafter, so it's been a few several weeks. Be sufficient it to say,
this problem did not reveal itself right away.
However, on my way at home from the seaside over Funeral service Day few
days, my automobile's Wireless program instantly ceased linking to the
iPhone.
It was linking to an Android operating system cellphone of my own just
excellent, so I easily decided out any problem with the car.
Upon nearer evaluation, I found that both the Wireless and Wi-Fi
relationships in the configurations selection were grayed out, significance
that I could
not get connected to Wireless gadgets or Wi-Fi systems. After a fast search,
I found that others were having the same problem. There happens to be
16-page
(and growing) community publish on Apple's website and an The apple company
help web page for solving the problem, along with a few of identical
problems
taking up on other websites.
I tried all the actions The apple company set out on its help web page, such
as absolutely support up the cellphone and repairing it to its manufacturer
fails, but the Wi-Fi and Wireless choices stayed grayed out. I realized they
were both on the same chipset and that something was incorrect with the
chipset,
but the point that other customers were stressing of this problem after
improving to iOS 6.1.3 created me a little dubious.
Whatever the case, I required the Wi-Fi to perform so I did not have overage
expenses from Verizon (and Wi-Fi is also far quicker than 3G, of course) and
I very much desired the Wireless to perform so the cellphone could be used
with my automobile's hands-free program. Ongoing to use the cellphone in its
present state was not really an choice, so I created an consultation at the
Professional Bar and advancing out to the The apple company Shop.
The lady who examined me in for my Professional Bar consultation was
absolutely enjoyable. When I revealed her the cellphone, without missing a
defeat,
she said, "Oh. Then you get a new cellphone." I got the impact that this was
not an separated occurrence, which actually came as a comfort. I realized
I'd get a alternative and be on my way before you know it. "Actually, hold
out," she ongoing. "Is the cellphone still under warranty? I do not want to
give you the incorrect information."
It was not. I informed to her that the cellphone had been changed less than
a year ago - the past one had a wonky mime change - and I realized that
alternative
mobile phones only bring a three-month assurance. It had been far longer
than three a few several weeks since the last cellphone was changed.
"I'm just trying to get an idea of what my choices are now," I described. My
plan was to use this cellphone until the next iPhone comes out (I'm
supposing
it'll be out in the fall) and update then. If force came to leave, I would
have regarded improving to the iPhone 5 and increasing my agreement
beginning,
seeing that a alternative cellphone would price $200 anyway.
As it changes out, I was two several weeks away from being qualified for an
beginning update to an iPhone 5, so that choice was easily nixed (buying a
full-price iPhone 5 would have price me $650). So the choices provided to me
were to either keep using the cellphone as is - without Wi-Fi or Wireless
- or pay $200 for a alternative cellphone because my own was out of
assurance.
I've proved helpful in the technological innovation market in some potential
or another for almost 20 decades, and several of those decades were invested
as a specialist solving computer systems. When a device functions up, there
is usually one of two main culprits: application or components. For computer
systems, application issues are more typical, mostly due to the point that
application is controlled by error-prone humans, whereas components issues
are
more unusual but are fairly easy to identify. Phones are a little more
complex, as the application is more difficult to dirt up, whereas the
components
is vulnerable to lumps and falls and moisture and dirt and lint and a lot of
other ecological aspects.
At any rate, it's unusual to experience both a application and a components
problem in a device simultaneously - but this almost seemed like a
application
problem that triggered a components problem. I launched this concept to the
lady verifying me in at the Professional Bar, and her position was that it
was both a application and components problem before eventually conceding
that the application had triggered the components to leave the workplace
properly.
I requested her if this had been a typical problem, and she said that it
had. She also said that it would be difficult to move the cell phone's
application
returning to the past edition, and that doing so would not even fix the
Wireless and Wi-Fi problem anyway.
"The application update was expected to fix the Wi-Fi, but it finished up
splitting it in several iPhone 4 and 4s mobile phones," she said. I
requested
her if she could see why I would be disappointed by having to pay $200 to
substitute a cellphone that was operating excellent until I set up a
application
update, and she said yes, she could see why I would be disappointed. But the
adhering point remained: the cellphone was out of assurance and this was
obviously
now a components problem that could only be set by changing the components.
So I finished up spending $200 for a alternative, understanding that I'll
probably be able to offer it for at least $200 when the new iPhone comes
out.
The display on the old cellphone was fairly damaged, too, so that got set in
the procedure. The lady assisting me informed me that The apple company
would
"take the old cellphone and determine what went incorrect."
Throughout this whole procedure, I constantly got the sensation that this is
a problem The apple company knows about and a problem that is not exactly
unusual. And the alternative cellphone I was given had not yet been modified
to iOS 6.1.3 - I'm not going to update it, either. I'd recommend against
improving
to it if you have an iPhone 4 or 4S and have not modified it yet.
I get that this is a complex situation: again, it's unusual for application
to cause a components problem. And I have to suppose this was only really a
problem because I'm in the strange six-month limbo between my cell phone's
unique assurance expiring and my early-upgrade display with Verizon throwing
in. Paying $200 because of something that occurred to The apple company
components due to an The apple company application update just does not seem
right,
though.
On the other side of that money, I can see where Apple's coming from, in
some aspects. At the end of the day, it's difficult to tell whether this
application
update split the Wi-Fi and Wireless relationships or if they split for
another reason. For all The apple company knows, I could be some con
specialist
trying to business a dud for a like-new cellphone.
It'll also be exciting to see whether the next update to iOS - presumably
iOS 7 - repairs this problem, or if the components actually gets fried after
operating 6.1.3 for a while. In hindsight, I should have taken the old
cellphone returning and jailbroken it to see what would have occurred. Some
customers
are confirming that the Wi-Fi and Wireless springtime returning again
occasionally.
I relayed this tale to Apple's PR division on Wednesday early morning to see
if they desired to opinion on it, and was informed Wednesday mid-day that
the problem would first be researched as it is applicable to me as a
client - to see if everything was managed properly - and then perhaps there
would
be an formal declaration given to me as a writer
